THE CELTICPRYDE PHILOSOPHY
A LEGACY WORTH CARRYING
There are dogs you admire.
There are dogs you love.
And then there are dogs that change the way you see a breed forever.
For us, that is the Yakutian Laika.
Born from the frozen lands of the Sakha Republic, this extraordinary breed was shaped by a people who needed more than a companion. They needed a partner — a dog capable of enduring the cold, travelling great distances, working beside them and sharing their lives.
These dogs were not created for a show ring.
They were created by purpose, partnership and survival.
And that history is something we believe deserves to be remembered.
WE ARE NOT HERE TO REINVENT THE YAKUTIAN LAIKA.
We are here to understand it.
At CelticPryde, our greatest responsibility is not to create our own version of the Yakutian Laika.
It is to understand what makes the breed what it is — and to protect those qualities for the generations that come after us.
The strength.
The endurance.
The intelligence.
The independence.
The sensitivity.
The extraordinary connection to people.
The ability to think for themselves.
The spirit that belongs to a dog born of the north.
These are not imperfections to be corrected.
They are pieces of the story.
And we believe the story matters.
BEAUTY HAS A PURPOSE
A Yakutian Laika should stop you in your tracks.
The eyes.
The coat.
The expression.
The movement.
The unmistakable presence.
But beauty alone is never enough.
We want beauty that has a reason to exist.
A body built to move.
A coat built to protect.
A structure built to endure.
Movement that is effortless rather than excessive.
A dog whose physical presence reflects the function for which the breed was created.
For us, the most beautiful Yakutian is not simply the one who catches your eye.
It is the one whose beauty makes sense.
WE PROTECT THE PRIMITIVE SOUL
There is something incredibly special about a primitive breed.
They haven't forgotten how to think.
A Yakutian Laika watches.
They listen.
They assess.
They remember.
They make choices.
They can be wonderfully affectionate one moment and completely convinced that they have a better idea the next.
And we love that.
We don't want to turn a Yakutian into something it isn't.
We don't want to remove every instinct, every question or every independent thought in the name of convenience.
Instead, we want to build trust.
We want our dogs to learn that the world is safe enough to explore, their people are worth listening to and new experiences can be approached with confidence.
Because there is a difference between breaking a dog's spirit and building a dog's confidence.
We choose confidence.
Every time.
THE DOG BEHIND THE COAT
A spectacular coat can win attention.
A spectacular temperament earns your heart.
At CelticPryde, we look beyond the photograph.
We think about the dog who will wake up beside a family every morning.
The dog who will travel.
The dog who will meet strangers.
The dog who will experience new environments.
The dog who will grow old beside the people who love them.
We want our dogs to have the opportunity to live full lives — not simply beautiful ones.
Because ultimately, the true measure of a breeding programme isn't how impressive a puppy looks at eight weeks.
It is the dog that puppy becomes.
THE BOND
There is something ancient about the relationship between a northern dog and its person.
It isn't always loud.
It isn't always obvious.
Sometimes it is simply a glance across a room.
A dog who follows you without being called.
A dog who notices when something has changed.
A dog who chooses to come back.
A dog who knows where they belong.
That is the connection we value.
Not blind obedience.
Not control.
Partnership.
We want our dogs to trust us enough to follow us — and respect them enough to allow them to remain themselves.
BREEDING WITH A REASON
We believe every litter should have a purpose.
Not every pairing needs to produce the next champion.
Not every puppy needs to become a show dog.
And breeding should never be about simply producing more puppies.
Every generation carries something forward.
So we consider the whole dog.
Pedigree.
Structure.
Movement.
Coat.
Temperament.
Health.
Genetic diversity.
Working qualities.
Breed type.
And perhaps most importantly:
What does this pairing contribute to the future of the breed?
That question sits at the heart of what we do.
THE SHOW RING IS A MOMENT.
THE DOG IS A LIFETIME.
We are proud to exhibit our Yakutian Laikas.
We love the atmosphere of the show ring.
We love seeing our dogs recognised for their quality.
But a ribbon lasts for a moment.
A championship title becomes part of a pedigree.
A photograph captures an instant.
The dog itself is what remains.
The muddy paws.
The ridiculous zoomies.
The stubborn moments.
The quiet companionship.
The adventures.
The laughter.
The years beside your family.
That is what we are breeding for.
A dog worthy of the ribbon —
but even more worthy of the life waiting beyond the ring.
PRESERVATION IS NOT STANDING STILL
To preserve a breed does not mean freezing it in time.
It means understanding where it came from so that we can make responsible decisions about where it is going.
We believe preservation requires knowledge, honesty, humility and continual learning.
We must be willing to look at our own dogs critically.
To celebrate their strengths.
To acknowledge their weaknesses.
To learn from every litter.
To listen.
To research.
To question.
And to make decisions that may benefit the breed long after we are gone.
Because we are not the owners of this history.
We are simply its custodians for a little while.
FROM THE SAKHA REPUBLIC TO AUSTRALIA
The journey of the Yakutian Laika from the frozen north of the Sakha Republic to the modern world is extraordinary.
A dog shaped by ice and distance now lives thousands of kilometres from the land that created it.
That creates an enormous responsibility.
Here in Australia, our climate, environment and lifestyle are completely different.
Yet beneath the modern surroundings is still the same remarkable northern dog.
Our role is to respect that origin while giving these dogs every opportunity to thrive here.
To remember the sled dogs behind the show dogs.
The working companions behind the pedigrees.
The people behind the history.
And the generations of dogs that carried this breed forward before we ever knew their names.
OUR NORTH STAR
We don't aspire to produce the most dogs.
We aspire to produce the right dogs for the future of our programme and the breed we love.
Dogs with beauty and substance.
Dogs with character and connection.
Dogs that can stand proudly beneath the lights of a show ring and then come home and throw themselves into family life.
Dogs that retain enough of the wild spirit to remind us where they came from.
And enough trust to remind us why they came alongside humans in the first place.
That balance is what we seek.
A LEGACY WRITTEN IN SNOW
Long before there was CelticPryde...
Before there were pedigrees hanging on walls.
Before there were championship titles.
Before these dogs travelled across oceans...
There were people walking across frozen landscapes beside their dogs.
There were pawprints disappearing beneath falling snow.
There were generations of northern dogs doing what they had always done:
working, travelling, protecting, enduring and living beside their people.
Their names may never be known to us.
Their photographs may never exist.
But their legacy lives in the dogs we have today.
And that is why this matters.
Every puppy born at CelticPryde becomes part of something much bigger than itself.
A story that began long before us.
A story that must continue long after us.
We are simply one chapter.
And we intend to make it count.
